Our Classroom

Freedom of choice is a tenet of our classroom. As you walk into our classrooms, you will see busy, happy and engaged children working independently with the materials they have chosen and often, in deep concentration and satisfaction.

• We have carefully prepared our classroom to meet the needs of the child – to gain independence and support spontaneous learning and discovery.
• The materials are displayed on open shelves at the child’s eye level and are always accessible to them.
• Everything has its place. The intended order in our classroom allows the child to find what they need easily, thereby giving them independence and a sense of security.
• Returning materials to their designated place is natural to our children in the classroom and this imparts a sense of responsibility and citizenship in the children.
• Our teacher presents the activities and our children learn by first watching the presentations and completing the activities on their own.
• New information is presented to the children when they are developmentally ready for it; and meted out based on their individual needs.
• Our children learn by actively working with the concrete materials before extending the learning to abstract concepts when they are ready.

And the result…. A peaceful and harmonious classroom where children love to learn!
